OK, Pulling my hair out a little.
I'm interested in a client server HDTV playback. My server will have the HDTV recording card(s) and SD PVR(s) According to the SageTV Sys. Requirements: http://www.sagetv.com/requirements.html?sageSub=tv it shows that for "recording" I need a 3Ghz processor, depending on the video card utilizing DXVA. So, wouldn't that be for playback? Is playback more demanding or is recording? Should the clients that want to play HD be 3Ghz+ or the Server that is recording the HD? Thanks! Last edited by frostykev; 02-19-2006 at 04:50 PM. |

Clients need the CPU power, just about any server should be fine.

Depending on what you are using for a vid card (geforce 6600 or better), the processor does not need to be a 3.0 gig. I have a sempron 2600 with a geforce 6600 and it plays 1080i just fine. As far as the server, that can be just about anything. I was using a 766 mhz celeron w/ 384 mb of ram and it was able to do 1 hdtv card, and 2 sdtv cards. Unfortunately it was a SFF case and was so hot it was causing problems and so I moved to a more powerful server in a bigger case.

I was hoping it was the other way! One massive powerful box, and 3 little old ones, but alas.
I'll use my 1Ghz or 800Mhz in a new case down in the basement, I have 1 HD and 1 PVR250, add some Hard Drives and give it a shot. Thanks! |
