Need help from Purevideo experts
After reading about these decoders I decided to buy them and install them on my client box. The client has a Nvidia 6200 series video card.
I have been using the Elecard decoders for years as they have given me great performance and results. I need some help of prefered settings for the new encoders. I see that my cpu is around 40-50%, but pans are very jerky. What de-interlacing method do you all use? I'm currently using defaults for everything, and overlay rendering. The default de-interlacing I believe is set to "smart". I show both SD recordings from a pvr250 and HD recordings from the A180. Not sure if this matters or not. thanks, |

I just bought purevideo and I also have a 6200..
When I bring up SageTV, Purevideo icon does not come up in the tray. If I shut down SageTV and bring up Windows media player, the purevideo icon appears in the tray and I can choose the settings. |

The settings from WMP will stick in Sage.

I also found that you can set the AC3filter settings in WMP if that is your default audio decoder.

The icon does not come back up when I use SageTV...so, are you saying that I should use the purevideo with WMP and set the settings and then when I turn off WMP and bring up STV that it will use those same settings with STV even though the icon for purevideo doesn't come into the system tray?
along the same line...Since i have a 6200, when I right click on the desktop, I get a settings tab and then I click on advanced, I get a 6200 setting page. I have been using this to change colors, etc...how does this screen interact with the purevideo. Am I changing purevideo settings here, or offsetting them? One more thing....Now my full screen is slightly larger than my TV screen..I can't find a way to get it smaller...I'm using VMR9... Thanks a lot for your help...I've been searching for answers for the last couple of weeks and every day, I'm getting it a little closer... Thanks, Gary |

Of course, IMO you shouldn't be messing with video color controls on the PC if you don't have to: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=523614 Quote:

Stranger89, you'e been very helpful....I now have a picture that is decent, not great, yet, but decent. (Even my wife likes it now) The difference now is in the clarity of the picture. From my cable settop box, the picture is just clearer...
Could it be in the resolution I am using...? My TV states that it handles 480I, 480P and 1080I....My cable box using s-video says its using 1080I.....not sure what resolution I have for SageTV with my HTPC...I look at my settings for the desktop and it says 1024 by 768...I have a setting for 1440 X 1080 for the desktop...But, when I click on that setting it gives me desktop larger than my screen and I can't figure out how to make it fit my screen. Thus, when I then use STV, I get picture bigger than my screen and the clarity is not very good. So, using S-video, how can I get the picture clearer, assuming I need to somehow increase the resolution? Thanks... Last edited by garyellis; 02-23-2006 at 07:59 AM. |

First, the signal coming out of s-video is 480i regardless of what you set the set-top box to. The 1080i you have it set to is only for Component, DVI, and HDMI outputs. Try setting the box output to 480i.
You'll most likely want to set your desktop to the TV's native resolution. That would be 1920 x 1080i but that will give you overscan in the Windows desktop and applications. This is what I do for my 720p set since the overscan is not too bad for me. Often though, the overscan can be unusable so you have to adjust it by using the Nvidia drivers control panel. This is where I'll leave it to someone else since I have an ATI card and don't have a 1080i tube TV. |

So, 480 with s-video is the best resolution setting I can get...ok..so, I'll use that and with that I do not have an overscan problem now...but, still the clarity of the picture is not as good as S-video is through my cable set top box...
I am using purevideo with the nvidia 6200 card. I can keep playing around with the settings on the purevidia driver, if that's the best I can do...
