New HTPC setup

Neeed some suggestion, pros and cons, on a new HTPC setup. I am looking at two options and looking for others.

1st Option: Purcahse a LCDTV (has a tuner) and a laptop computer with an external tv tuner for recording. I need some suggestion of a 23" to 27" LCDTV thats under $1000.

2nd Option: Purchase a LCD (no tuner) and a laptop computer with an external tv tuner for recording. I need some suggestion of a 23" to 27" LCD thats under $1000.

FYI: I need a laptop for business trips or trips to the in-laws. I was thinking about the HP dv8000 series. Also this is my second HTPC setup so I don't need anything bigger than a 27" monitor. This is more of a back up / 4 yr son TV.

As you can see, my biggest decision is what type of monitor to get. Looking at what an exceptable resolution and response time should be.

thanks
