MVP + Short DHCP Client Lease Time = Trouble?

I am not a network guru; so it didn’t dawn on me
until recently that my routers DHCP server could
have been causing some MVP reboot trouble.

I got to thinking that if my DHCP client lease time
was 24 hours (the default), then depending on
the last time the MVP rebooted
(say…when I wanted to watch a show), I could
be looking at renewing the lease during my next
nights viewing. I am guessing that would probably
put a glitch in the experience.

Well, I increased the lease time significantly.
Combine that with the “power off”, and “keep alive”
features of 4.1.6, and I expect to be relatively
trouble-free from now on.

Hope this helps somebody else!

I’m not a network guru either but had a similar lease issue with my PCs/Mac on my home network after installing a new Linksys router. After about a day, I couldn’t get any internet on any PC/Mac in the network (even after reboot of the PCs/Mac) but, strangely, I had internal networking. Go figure…. Initial fix was power-cycling the router each day. However, once I changed the DHCP lease time for the router to 9999 minutes or some such thing, bingo, no issues since. Makes no sense to me but it was an easy fix and reminded me of what you did.
