NVIDIA doesn't work

Help - I just installed the the NVIDIA encoder and whenever I try and user it Sage keeps saying "There was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.playbackexception: error(-5,0x80040218): There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback. I then try and use a different audio decoder that I know works like Sage or Default and it then gives me the same error only a "video error." It's like it won't use the NVIDIA encoder and I don't know why.

I've tried both of them the NVIDIA Video Decoder and also the NVIDIA Video Post Processor. I tried the other video decoders in Sage including Default, Intervideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge and also the SageTV MPEG video Decoder but it does not look very clear when watching TV on a TV or on my computer screen. It looks okay but things like numbers on the screen (ie: an address, score of a game, etc) looks fuzzy.

Thanks,
Mike

do you have a supported audio device ? (their list is on Nvidia's website) also you must enabled Directsound audio setting within sage.

I have never been able to get the nvidia decoders to work on my system; previously I had errors just like yours: I guess I changed something because it almost worked yesterday.

Yesterday, I tried the post processor decoder and it ran for a few minutes, then during a chapter change it locked up sage front end..ctrl-alt-del....then I tried just the decoder and that lasted a little longer, then same thing. I don't get it; how is this so complicated??? Every other decoder worked fine for me...but then I tried powerdvd 6 and that was REALLY stuttery (i guess I have to track down reg settings)...powerdvd5 was just fine out of the box.

ok, yeah thanks!....I even read that thread and forgot about it. hopefully it will work.

My only remaining question is what's the difference between Nvidia decoder and Nvidia Post Processor listed in sagetv? Only the nvidia post processor lets me adjust the properties from the tray icon; the decoder won't let me bring up the window.

The post processor emulates the hardware film detection in software and forces software decoding.

Thanks, so if I make the nvidia decoder "default" in sagetv, which one is being used????

I assume the post processor is what I want since I have an ATI 8500 (dx8.1); is that correct?

thanks again,
Ben

If you set the decoder to "Default" in Sage, it will use whatever decoder is "Preferred" (has the highest merit). The Deccheck utility can tell you what decoder that is.

That's a tough one. The Post Processor filter isn't anywhere near as good as the hardware version, so my advice would be to try and see. It could be a tossup.
