DVD subtitle size

Hi,

Some questions on DVD subtitles - does the size of them depend on the video decoder? Is there any way to make them bigger?

I started converting dvd's using Nero recode but found subtitles nearly unreadable. When I looked at the original they were also small but more readable as they suffered no further compression.

I have to admit that I haven't experimented with different dvd softwareplayers on this issue. All my dvd's are on a fileserver and I would like to play them from Sage rather than an external player.

On DVD's, the subtitles are actually pictures that are overlayed onto the screen. The decoder just has to know to overlay the subtitle channel.

Closed Captioning, on the other hand, leaves the rendering totally up to the decoder.
