Is lirc working for rcv-only?

I read in the forum that lirc was unreliable for blasting but that it could be made to work if it emulated keyboard commands. Is that still the only way to control Sage via lirc? Or has native support been added in the intervening year or so?

I have lirc working, in as much as it's sending recognized codes to the Sage box that I can see with irw. Is irxevent the only way to get an lirc-driven remote to talk to Sage?
