Appropriate/Best way to record OTA HD?
I have an HDTV5 Lite working great inside of sage 4.1.4.
My question is, what's the appropriate recording setting? I have it set at DVD Standard play (which i think is the highest level) - but is there a way to just have sage write out the TS? Do you lose anything by writing out MPEG? I'm just looking for the highest possible quality from the card... Thanks! Jeff

If you are recording HD, those recording quality settings don't apply -- the HD broadcast is simply saved as the stream comes in. (The quality settings are still there because some HD cards also have software encoders for SD.)

Hmmm. OK. So, the card is providing MPEG?
How come my episode of 24 that i recorded last night only took up 4 GB, when other HD stuff requires twice that? Still being compressed? I guess I expected the card to stream .ts files (is a TS file just an mpeg file?) Thanks for the help, Jeff

Is the recording complete (did it record the entire show)? Do you also have an analog card & it recorded from another channel instead of the HD airing? Does the recording have the HD marker on it? (The default STV uses such a marker, but I don't know about the one you are using.)

I believe the recording is complete.
I only have 1 card in my machine and it's the HDTV5 Lite. So, i know it recorded from the DT feed of fox and i know that the show is broadcast in hi-def. When i got to the file properties for the mpeg file, it says it's 1280x720. Don't know if that means anything... I did not see an "HD" marker on it.. not sure if sageMC16x9 does that or not. Thanks, Jeff

I've noticed an hour show recorded Fox was roughly the size of half hour shows on the other networks. Fox and maybe ABC broadcast in 720p while I think everyone else uses 1080i, which may offer a slight size reduction. The rest may be the result of better compression.
