fresh XP, old SageTV, old settings gone

hi guys,

i did a fresh install of XP, but first i backed-up all my data and programs. after the new XP was up and running i re-nstalled my 350 & 150 cards. picture quality improved quite a bit with WinTV.

then i restored the Frey folder and reinstalled STV. the picture quality and audio are great on the new STV. howver, none of my previous settings, favs, etc., appear anymore.

how do i get back all my old stuff ?

i did notice that now i have several properties and wiz.bin files suffixed with the version. which ones does STV actually use?

The files w/o all the extra suffixes are the ones used -- wiz.bin, sage.properties, for example. The others are auto-backups from when a new version is installed.

Since you installed everything on a new system, double check the actual location of the new install... it sounds like it is in a different directory & isn't using the data files that you think are being used. If it is in the correct directory, check the properties file to see where it thinks wiz.bin is; perhaps it is using wiz.bin in a different (old) location.

hi Andy,

thank you for the info and pointers.

it turns out my problem was a faulty shortcut on the desktop.

FYI, in the process of all this i installed a new HDD, formatted it for 64K clusters and copied over my video library. the system named it E:. my old installation was looking to find all these files on G;, which the new install of XP had already renamed.

so i just renamed the brandy new E: to G: and restarted STV. it sees all of my old recordings just fine.

might be a handy trick for others with HDD problems.

so now i wait to see if i have actually resolved the original garbled audio problem with all this mucking about...
