Have an MCE remote sitting around?

I don't know if this is already floating out in the board but I thought I'd like to share this with you... With the information posted on that board you can customize ALL the buttons on your remote and possibly use other remotes with the receiver... you no longer need to worry about MCE popping up if you press "The Green Button" (if you are using Media Center)... The HIP software is also very nice and it's all free, which is nicer.

I got this working with the USB remote that comes with the Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE and it's designed for the Microsoft model so perhaps it'll work with other remotes?

Yes, there have been several threads in the past talking about this, getting all of the buttons to work in a non-MCE environment. Still good information though.

Note that you will still need something like Girder or HIP to translate the "special" keys to tell Sage to do something.
