Playback and TV are jittery

Recently the playback on the server has become very jittery like it can't keep up. All the clients can watch TV and recordings without issue. Can anyone think what has happened?

Sagetv 2.1
2.4p processor
1g memory
250g disk space
128m nVidia
3 - pvr-250's
