Frame by frame

I was trying to rewatch something in frame by frame, I held down pause and it did what I thought was one frame at a time. However it appears as if it still skips some frames. Objects would jump the width of half the screen over the course of one "frame". Yet watching it in real time you see the object seamlessly move.

Any help would be appreciated. I was trying to rewatch episodes of "Lost" to pick up some clues, although it is also frustrating trying to "instant replay" sports.

There is no true frame-by-frame playback in Sage.

Are there any properties that I can change to at least get it to show more frames when holding down pause?? It is frustrating when you think you see something in real time, and try to do a slo-mo replay to see what it is, and it skips those frames. It seems to do about 5 frames per second, isn't standard television 29.97 fps?? I would settle for 15 frames during playback of a second.
