sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0 x80040218)

I am gettin the following error when i try to play live tv or recorded video:

There was a Playback Erro in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0 x80040218): There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback.

Ive horsed around with all kinds of different combinations of audio renderer/mpeg2 audio decoder filter and ive run the configure video playback on all settings will no luck.

I should add that I recently updated my ati vid card drivers (cat6.1) and directx (dec2005) prior to this error. Im of the mind that the the directx update is the culprit. What do you guys suggest?

im windows xp pro
amd64 3400
running sage 4.15. (these errors happening version 4.0 -4.13 as well)
hauppage 250 vid card
ati 9800xt vid card

I think it is the ATI vid card driver installation that broke something, because the same exact thing just happened to me. I had been using Windows default drivers on a client, but had problems with DVD playback. I tried installing the ATI (9200) vid card drivers, and now all I get on any video is an error that there was a problem rendering the video portion.

Any suggestions? I could try uninstalling the video card drivers, but that seems counterproductive to taking full advantage of the abilities of the vid card.

I only updated ATI DVD decoder and started to get the same message. I haven't gotten around to installing the full ATI video card/HDWonder package.

I'm an Nvidia user and get the same message. I've never had an Ati card in this system.

I've add removed Sagetv, deleted the folders and did a fresh install. This did nothing to cure this problem.

You guys above, have you found any solution to this?

I found that removing the xvid drivers from my system made the difference. Somhow the install was jacking with the dvd decoding side of things and causing all the problems.

I had xvid drivers on my machine as well. However, removing them didnt help me.

Ive also reinstalled windvd4 and windows media player 10. As another problem ive been having WMP was claiming to have no dvd decoder. That issue IS cured.

I'm having the same issue. I only had it during playback, until I did some windows and driver updates. Then I couldn't get anything to work. I tried the Nvidia decoder, cyber-meida decoder, updated ATI decoder and finally a fresh install of SageTV. I tried every combination of Overlay, Renderer, 3D Acceleration, etc... with not luck. I tried to roll back the drivers for the HDTV Wonder as well, but that didn't seem to help. AFter the clean install of SageTV, I can't even add the ATI as a digital tuner w/ getting this error.
At this point I'm moving to MCE as it's working fine w/ the ATI and the wife is tired of excuses. Now that she's seen the HD picture, she doesn't want to go back to analog (espeically now that my antenna "array" is optimized for HD and the analog picture is suffering)
I've got a VBOX 151 tuner on order, I'll give it a try when it arrives.
Here's hoping this thread sheds some light on this.

I got the VBOX DTA 151 (PCI) card today, installed it and tried to add this digital tuner as a new source in SageTV, I get the same error: There was a Capture Error in playback. Details (-2,0x80004005): There was a problem...
My ATI HDTV tuner is no longer in the machine, so that points towards the video driver? I guess I'll roll that back and see what happens.

I installed a Dec2005 drivers I had for my ATI 9600, which I believe I was running before the upgrade to the catalyst6 driver that was being used. Nothing changed.
Looking at my SageTV settings, I set the renders's and decoders back to default and tried again, still no luck.
I'm not sure what else to try at this point?
