Sage TV in the UK

How do you you find Sage TV operates in the UK? With the XMLTV plugin etc. do you find it works well?

I'm interested as work on Sage Recorder (which I'm currently using) seems to be coming to a stop and all the work is being done on Sage TV, so it looks like in the future, that will be the route to take.

With every update, there are 30 Sage TV improvements but only 0.1 Sage Recorder improvements so I assume it must be very stable and usable now so I was wondering how you guys here in the UK were finding it and how difficult it was to setup etc.

Sorry to have to say that I am not that impressed. Not with Sage TV but with XMLTV. I find it hatefull having the listings all over the place. That and I still have not found a conclusive way to change my existing sky digi channels with it.

Seriously considering selling my current small setup (Asus Pudit, 160Gb cached HHD, PVR350, 512MB ram, Plextor DVD / RW) and buying a sky+ box.

Until support fro the UK is made available, I would not bother wasting your money, like all PVR progs they are US biased. Sorry to dissapoint, but until the current set of PVR programs are more polished, they won't make their way into my lounge.

Paul.

Thanks Paul, that's the sort of thing I was worried about.

I know what you mean about the Sky+ though, it does look VERY tempting now it can record 2 shows at once while you watch a third. It's the £200 cost and the extra £10 a month that stings and if I wanted to keep any of the recordings, I'd still have to copy them out of the Sky+ to SageRecorder anyway!

You do make a valid point. Re copying the programs.

I have tried most programs, from Showshifter to MythTV ( Don't go there unless your a Unix guru, and play Linux daily rather than watching TV) I could live with Sage but it got a major thumbs down from my family, Wife absolutely hated it, saying she could set up a video quicker

I know what you mean about the subs, that has to be the major drawback with Sky+, but at least it will fit in the front room, and the wife could use it.

Paul.

It's not quite the same thing. but my mate has just bought a TiVo and it's fantastic. Puts my little DIY box to shame and is so easy to use, even the folks use it when they come round!

For a 'family friendly' unit, the Sky+ probably is the best route.

I'll tell my mate about MythTV as he actually _is_ a Linux Guru

Isn't it just sods law!!

I have my Sky+ arriving on Monday, and I just found out I had won a Tivo (Although it was from the America computer company who's equipment we sell) Wonder if they know we don't use NTSC but Pal. As it would appear that Tivo's are like rocking horse stuff over here.

Good luck with you project, if you decide to buy sage, let me know and I will do you a real good deal on my serial number, along with the confirming email that states it was payed for.

Regards Paul.

FYI - Per the license agreement for Sage, the licenses are non-transferable and cannot be resold.
