Intalling a pvr500 and a pvr500-MCE

Is it possible to install a hauppauge pvr500 and a pvr500 MCE on the same server? My pc already has a pvr 500 and when I try to install the 500 MCE one of the inputs for the pvr 500 does not function properly (no sound). When I remove the 500 MCE, everything goes back to normal...

Any ideas?

Hmmmm,

I was under the impression that the 500 and 500mce were the same cards.

They are. According to everything I've ever read and the hauppauge site all of the PVR500's are MCE versions. I imagine some stores don't advertise them as MCE versions since there's only one version.

Okay even if they are the same card, how can I get them to install correctly on the same server?

Do this.
Go into the BIOS of your machine. Disable all the ports you're not using. This would be printer ports, serial ports, disable any builtin modems or NICs you're not using on the motherboard. Stuff you can do without. What you trying to do is free up any IRQs you can. From the PVR drivers find program called hwclear and run it. Shut down your PC and place your PVR500 in 2 different slots from what you tried before. Try not to use the one next to your AGP card-they usually share the same interrupt. Now power up the PC and install the drivers. After you're done go into Device Manager and see what resources (irq) each tuner is using. If they're all different you're done. If not run hwclear, move 1 card to a different slot and try again.

okay I tried the switching of the cards and the uninstalls and reinstalls. I was able to get all tuners on different IRQ's. The problem I have now is that when I have both cards installed, I lose sound on one of the tuners of my original pvr 500. If I disable or remove the second card the sound comes back...

Any suggestions?

Go to www.shspvr.com and into the forums. Get the latest drivers for the PVR150/500 (They are the same go get them out of the PVR150 thread).

Sorry. I'm running 2 x PVR500MCE without issue. Did you pull out your original card and just install the new card? Maybe the new card is defective and causing the issue with your old card. Does audio come out of both tuners in your new card? Are you installing them one at a time? Put in one card, Install the drivers, configure in Sage, shutdown and then repeat with the second card? Or are you putting both cards in at the same time and installing them?

Hey G,
I found this thread and it's very similar to what I am trying to do although I am trying to do it with PVR150 and PVR500.

The problem I'm having is getting them both to work at the same time. I feel like I've tryed everything, but possibly not.

At first I just tried installing the PVR150 and got that up and working, so I added the PVR500. I got them working with GB-PVR. Problem was I couldn't get the PQ the way I liked it and decided to try SageTV. I love it and would like to use it.

Now the problem I'm having is I configured all 3 tuners right after I installed Sage, but I couldn't get a picture at all. So I took the 500 out of the cofiguration and then I got a picture with the 150. I added the 500 back in and couldn't get a picture out of any of them again.

To make a long story short, I can only seem to get 1 tuner working at a time. I checked and they are all on seperate IRQ's.

Is there some configuration I'm missing in Sage (or anywhere) as to why only one card will work?

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Have you checked the Sage Properties file to see if they are on the "ignore capture device" line of the properties file (it is listed as something like that anyway, I am typing this on my laptop that does not have Sage installed and I don't care to look into the manual)? It might be that when you drop the other card into your computer, sage might be setting up the new card into the ignore encoders line of the properties which would mean sage wouldn't be using it. Also, is it that the "preview" pane isn't working or have you just tried to setup each tuner and then it still won't record when trying "Watch Live TV" function? The reason I ask, is often times the preview pane doesn't work but if you skip that function the tuner works fine anyway.

Exact same problem I am having...

I spent 2 full days changing cards,changing drivers,checking IRQ's,etc...

The 150 works until I install the 500, then both tuners work on the 500, but the 150 no longer works..Sometimes I get a white screen on the 150,sometimes I get a snowy picture, sometimes its a blank screen.

I did what was described above....I "HWcleared '...I reinstalled the 150card and then made sure it worked, then I installed the 500 card and installed the same drivers as the 150 card. (made sure they IRQ's weredifferent). The 500card would work, but the 150 tuner would no longer work..Sage is recognizing the 150 card, because it shows the screen as if its playing live TV.

VERY frustrating....thanks for any help...

Also, I called Hauppauge..they gave me some new drivers, but they didn't help either.

I have a 350 and a 500MCE in adjacent slots. only issue I'm having right now is FM only has audio on 1 card and that's only static now (350 worked b4 the 500 install). I have poor reception where I current live, but I'm moving in a couple of months to a better area. I'll play w/ the settings more then. As far as I can tell, all 3 tuners work. I can record 1 show and watch 2 other channels at the same time.

Edit: Moved the antenna to the other card and now I have radio again. Seems odd that I can't pick either/or and it work. Oh well.

Frustration

Well I finally wrote to Hauppauge Support to find an answer to this and here was their response. I posted this on byopvr.com also.

Quote:
Download:
Base Driver
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...2043_24103.exe

Driver Update
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...0_22_23257.exe

WinTV Application
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...k411_23347.exe

Video Decoder
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...md05_23290.exe

Hcwclear
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...s/hcwclear.exe

After the files have been saved please run the hcwclear.exe utility to clear
any previous WinTV software. Double click on Hcwclear.exe and a list of
options should come up. The fourth item is selected by default to remove all
WinTV files (total remove) and I want to check the box under that Search all
INF files ok. Click ok to run hcwclear.exe, say yes to continue and you
should get a black box window on your desktop. It should go away by itself
ok.

After this restart the computer. When the computer comes back up you will
get a found new hardware wizard, please cancel it. Now located the base
driver file and execute it to install the driver. When the base driver is
done install the driver update, the WinTV application and the video decoder.

After that run WinTV2000 on your desktop to scan for channels, the default
settings are good enough for regular cable scanning.

*PVR-150
The installation process is as described, nothing special about it.

*PVR-500
WinTV2000 can't work with multiple tuners, it will attach to the first tuner
that it sees. Once you run WinTV2000 let it find your channel or channels
and see if you get a video image. In order to test the tuners individually,
you will have to manually disable each one in device manager. Disable Tuner
two and try WinTV2000 make it works. Then Enable tuner two and disable tuner
1 and make sure it works.

If the PVR-150 works alone and the PVR-500 works alone correctly then the
problem is either with the system not being able to handle both tuners are
the same time or a problem with the applications.

If either card fails with WinTV2000 then it's a hardware problem.
Now I have an RMA# for my PVR500. Hopefully this will help someone else at least troubleshoot the cards and end some of the .
