Commercials Free on SageTV 4

Ok, sorry for being so dense, but understanding what I need to do to get SageTV to wipe out commercials is not clear to me.

Apperantly, there is this ShowAnalyzer that analyzes a show and creates files showing where the start/end of commercials are - does this mean that commercials are still recorded?

Can someone please point me to the instructions that explains all the steps I need to take to get SageTV to skip commercials?

Ok Thanks. Can you give a quick overview what each of the modules do?

When all is said and done, will it *NOT* record commercials, or is this simply for skipping over commercials as in when viewing?

If commercials are still recorded, is there an option for NOT recording commercials?

Sage performs timed records for however long the program lasts. ShowAnalyzer (and Sage 4?) just mark the commercials recorded in the timed record program so the viewer can either remove them themselves or skip over them. No Hardware or software to my knowledge (not even tivo) does not record commercials.
They record everything from the start of the timed record to the end of the time record and allow the customer to decide if they want to view the commercials, jump over them or edit them out of the file after the show has been recorded.

And IMO, that is a good thing, because whether you're just viewing, or ultimately archiving, none (not even SA ) of the detection programs are 100% accurate, so it's always good to have the skipped video there, just in case it wasn't all commercial.

Ok, that makes sense.

I have not played with the archive feature, but this would seem to me to be the ideal place to automatically strip out the commercials when you archive a movie.

Is there a simple and painless way to strip out commercials from a movie once you know that ShowAnalyzer got everything right?

Using VideoReDo and the .vbj? file ShowAnalyzer automatically produces (basically a VideReDo cut list) will allow the user to remove the commercials in VideoReDo for long term show archival and storage.

That's not exactly what I meant . By archiving, I meant something like burning to DVD, though moving to a more permanent location would work too. Just in case, with the above setup, Sage will/can automatically skip commercials, usually very well (often it will skip and I won't notice it skiped anything). It's just that since the commercials are in the file, if it skips into (or out of) the middle of scene, you can go back.

It seems to me that ShowAnalyzer has done 99% of the job - all you need to do is read one file and write to another while skipping over the parts SA has identified as commercials.

There are no other hopefully free software out to do this?

EDIT: I found this: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/Comclean - But I think it's only avaialble for linux.

cost

This whole setup costs $60. $10 if you don't want to archive shows (burn to DVD).

Wanting to be fair. There is free software that will do what SA does. Only (in my opinion and experience) it doesn't do it as well or as quickly. That program is called comskip.exe.
