SageEncoder versus the new "itunes" encoder for Sage
I am just venturing into the world of reencoding. I have nielm's webserver up and running and I just installed ajuhawk's encoder.
I havent tested it out yet, but it looks like a great option. My question is about the new itunes encoder by squidmarks. His apparently uses ffmpeg to encode to mp4 and can do alot more than just itunes. ( divx, 264 or whatever) and you can apparently encode in whatever form or quality you like, havent tried yet tell me if I am wrong please) I have two purposes for reencoding. 1. reencode in divx or another codec for a smaller file but retaining most of the quality. Presetly use divx HD setting. Looking at x264 once sage can play. 2. streaming media via home webserver (nielm's). My home has cable modem, 700 or so up speed. I would be dling from high speed connections as well. My questions, yeah its taken a while... 1. what files can be presently streamed via internet? mp4? divx? 2. must you wait for the file to be completely reencoded to be streamed? 3. which of the two is faster at encoding? (squidmarks uses ffmpeg, ajuhawk use virtualdub or windows media encoder) 4. Can I serve both purposes with one file? (high quality and streaming) Looks like we have two really great options for sage. Thanks everyone! |
