Digital TV Application Question
Currently my cable TV connects directly to my Plextor tv402 and then connects to my PC via USB2 down in the basement. I am running full version of Sagetv on the server. I use a modded xbox to stream the recorded shows to the TV in the Living room. (The Xbox is soon to be replaced by the MVP)
I however subscribe to digital cable and use a box to output the digital cable to my main TV in the living room. How do I get Sagetv to record the digital channels? Do I have to move a PC upstairs to the living room and somehow connect the output of the cable box to the Plextor and then re-setup Sage with the digital service paackage? Will I be able to turn channels using Sage even though right now I am forced to use the cable box? I hope this makes sense, because right now I am a bit confused. Thanks in advance. |

I am thinking this through and I bet I need to use some sort of remote dealy like the IR Blaster or something that my Plextor doesn't support. I hope I am wrong.

You'll need the remote dealy (IR Blaster) to change channels on your cable box. Unless it supports a serial connection. Some cable boxes do. You'll also want to get the svideo out and audio out from your cable box to your tuner card and re-setup your source.

I may be wrong here but the IR blaster is installed on your PC and then the PC Tx/Rx IR signals to your Cable Box. The plextor will just encode what is sent to it via S-Video and display it on your client.
