New HDTV - comp display is windowed

Why is it that when I plug my HTPC into my parents HDTV (KDS-R60XBR1) that has a native resolution of 1920X1080, if I setup my video card to output at that res., the tv says "Out of scan range"? I can do 1280X1024 but anything above that causes problems. Is this a driver issue? The TV has a PC input and when I plug it in, it says "Found new hardware Sony LCDTV".

Any ideas? I'd really like to run the display at full screen. I tried to going to that TV's web site looking for drivers, but it didn't have any. When looking in the manual, the display res. matrix only went up to 1280X1024 (1280X960 is also an option). So how do I make it bump up to 1920X1080?

When you change the res take a look at the frequesncy it is trying to use. It also probably changed to something like 200 MHz. Just change it back to 60MHz or so and it should work.

Check your manual. The highest resolution supported on that TV with the PC Input is (SXGA) 1280 x 1024 at 64 kHz vertical and 60 MHz horizontal. You also have (WXGA) 1280 x 768 at 47.8kHz vertical and 60MHz horizontal. If you set it any higher you'll receive the "Unsupported Signal" error. It also goes all the wat down to 640 x 400.

So then why does it also say "Native Resolution: 1920 x 1080" on the specifications tab of the web site? Is that for the "TV" part, but the "PC" part is limited to 1298 x 768 at 47.8kHz? Close to $5K for the TV and it doens't support 1920 X 1080 for the PC? I suppose I can accept that.

Any idea on why when I do run the lower res that work, something in to 1280 range, it doens't do full screen? I'm looking in the manual, too, and on page 99 it says something about that. I guess I just have to play with it some more so that I can get the black bars on top and on bottom to go away.

Thanks.

TV's with a PC input generally have a lower resolution... I had a 1080i mitsu that only did 640x480. You want to hook your pc up via DVI or Component (from a converter)... That will get you the full 1080i resolution.
