PVR500 and Closed Captions - line on top of screen
I'm using the PVR500 and see that on some recordings I have a flickering dashed white line about 2px tall and as wide as screen on my recordings. I've read here that this is closed captioning data. I've also read that by changing the vertical aspect ratio to 102% or so (or changing the aspect ratio mode) in SageTV that this line will go away and it does.
But I'm not just looking at SageTV hiding that line, I'm wanting the line to not appear in the first place (in the recording) so that when I burn a DVD and use it in a non-sage box the line doesn't appear. I've seen suggestions for modifying registry entry "InsertCCInDVD". But this isn't a registry entry for the PVR500, in fact, I can't find any registry values for the PVR500 that look even remotely related. Has anyone found a solution to this? BTW: I'm using SageTV 4.0.0.56 and Hauppauge drivers 2.0.35.23297 (the latest beta driver). Thanks, john |

Have you tried actually burning a DVD and see if the line shows up when you play it?

Yes, the CC line appears on my burned DVDs too.
I'm burning with ULead DVD Movie Factory 3.5. I'm viewing with both Media Player 10 and WINDVD 5. john |

Those lines are actually in the TV signal. Normally when watching TV you don't see them because everything gets slightly overscanned. If you were to pop that DVD in a regular DVD player hooked up to your TV I'm guessing you wouldn't see the line. Other than getting re encoding the entire video file with a slight crop on it I don't know of any way to actually remove the line.
I'd recommend just overscanning your display a little bit or just use Sage to play the DVDs with the same adjustment you mentioned in the first post. |

jlmdxtv it been said so min time that 150 and 500 don't support closed captioning embeding like the 250 and 350.
Tools like Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3.5, Media Player 10 and WinDVD don;t have an option to allow for overscan. And as ToxMox said TVset are all ready in overscan which one of main reason why you don't see on reg TVset so ocan you burn your DVD disc play it back on a reg Home DVD Player or Soft that allow for overscan which usely need about 5 to 7% more over the stock 100%.
