Single PVR-250, which to add 150, 250 or 500?

I give up on the FusionHDTV5 Lite I just bought, the software for QAM stink s and after a blue screen the whole thing uninstalled itself with the drivers and I cannot get them back in.

So, since I will have to open the computer to yank it, I might as well add a second tuner. Do the PVR-150s get along with the 250s? Should I just take out both and put in a 500?

My only hang up on using a 500 is the IR remote thingy I use with the 250 (the thing that plugs in the back of the 250 that Sage ask about when you install). Does the 500 have the same port for the IR sensor? I don't really want to screw with the remote setup, it's simple and working.

No, the 500MCE and 150MCE do not have an IR port. (The regular 150 does.) If you add a card w/o the IR port, you might run into a problem where the Hauppauge IR software tries to use the wrong card. There is no fix for this, but someone came up w/a batch file that would disable the MCE card before starting the IR program.

Thumbs down

I added another PVR 150 and had to remove it due to "no sound" issues; my first card has no sound on a few channels and I tried EVERYTHING to fix it. After adding 2nd 150 it had no sound on "different" channels so I could not trust which card would record what (tried setting "merit" setting). I would get a 250 if I did it again.

So how does someone who uses a single 500 control Sage with a remote?

I might just add a second 250, but they are the same price as a 500...

Back to my problem (nothing like a thread jacking).

If I buy a PVR-500 to replace my PVR-250, do I then buy a Streamzap remote to then control Sage? Thanks.

Actually, that is my fault. The questions looked pretty similar to me when I first saw them in different sections of this forum, so I merged them. But, there seems to be a bit of a difference in the points of the questions. I'll be back w/more comments in a minute... I split the threads back apart, so I hope I got the correct responses for each one.

You would add some other remote + receiver, such as the Streamzap that you mentioned. An alternative to that would be a USB-UIRT along with just about any remote you want to use. (If you need to control a converter box, then the USB-UIRT could be used for that too.)

Edit: Here is where the batch file is mentioned for getting the remote to work if you have problems after adding an additional Hauppauge MCE-type tuner card that has no IR port.

I have the same missing audio problem as you and for that reason would also recommend a PVR-250 instead of a PVR-150. Too bad I can't find one to buy in Canada (other than the USB2 version).

I ordered a PVR-500 and the Streamzap. I'll soon have a PVR-250 and FusionHDTV 5 Lite to sell.

Why not use the 250 and the 500?
