Protecting Setup (from accidental changes)
So, I have been using SageTV for a while, and enjoy the software (and the active user forum). I have a few questions (hopefully trivial):
(1) Is it possible to remove buttons from the main menu (like Setup)? I would like to set the system up and then remove the link to all those configuable settings so that the wife/kids/dog can't accidentally change things. I would like to get in there sometimes, though. Also, is it possible to change the name of a button? (2) I am about to install v4.1 on a system with 4.0 already installed. I want to make sure my settings/videos all migrate without disruption. Which files (other than the video files) should I backup from the SageTV directory to provide a failsafe in the case something goes awry? (3) When I go to Schedule Recordings->Search->Browse By Category is there an easy way to 'jump' to a category? I tried using the remote to key in '81' (movies), but that didn't work. The category list is super long; it takes a while to scroll through... Also, is there a way to remove categories? Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers! #1 Use Nielm's customization here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13527
#2 I usually copy the entire SageTV directory, but the critical files are the wiz.bin and sage.properties #3 Not sure. I don't really use the categories, but I am sure that someone else out there does. ![]()

Protecting Settings
Ok, I d/l the documentation for SageTV Studio, and I think it will allow me to make the changes I want (move buttons around, etc).
However, perhaps someone has a quick-how to on the following: Can a menu button be password protected? Can the Setup button require a password when clicked? Or is it possible to make the Setup button only activated by the mouse click and not the remote click? And finally, is there any way to get to Setup if I just delete its button from the STV? Or is that a bad idea? -g-

You might want to check the default V4 STV, and see how the hidden extras are enabled/disabled.
And FWIW, if you only want to move buttons/rename them, neilm's dynamic menu import is probably substantially easier than Studio ![]() |

Is there a plug in for version 4.1.3? The history says: v 3.4 - 20/10/2005 for SageTV 3.0. I'm not sure if there is and if so where the download link is.
Thanks, Mike |

So, just use the v3.4 import that nielm has posted. |

Unintented Consequences
Ok, I am going to d/l and install neilm's dynamic menu import and see if that works. Is there a way to assign a key combo to bring up the set up screen so I can delete the button from the main menu and still have access to the set up? That way, when the remote is in use there's no way the settings can get changed, but I can still use the keyboard on the SageTV server to bring up the screen.
How do others prevent accidental changes from their setup? When you use the media extender, can you get into the set up screen? This seems to be a potential land mine: get everything set up just right, and wife/kids/dog comes along and accidentally changes things... GR
