Is SageTV v4.x running flawlessly on your machine? If so please comment.
I'm thinking of making the jump from a beta version of 2.2.x to v4.x on my dedicated Sage box but don't know if I should just yet...
Last time I tried a later version it took me a few days to figure out why my wiz.bin kept corrupting on me, a few video files here and there were unwatchable, video would all of the sudden stop playing, and sage kept crashing for no apparent reason, and on and on and on. Explanation: you cannot power an AMD 3000+, 1 GB RAM, an Nvidia FX5200, five PVR250s, 4 250 GB hard drives, and 4 cooling fans with a 300 watt power supply for very long. My power supply was dying and boy howdy was there some weird stuff going on with everything about my pc! I have since replaced the PSU with a 600W monster, and decided to take a break and actually spend more time with my new fiance... But now after reading the new SageTV manuals and alot of the cool things going on with the software, I want in on the fun (as long as I'm not troubleshooting a ton of stuff!) I want to know from those who have fairly flawless running setups to let me know what hardware they are running so I can compare with what I have (See my sig below)... maybe others could benefit from the same info.

I don't know if flawlessly is the right word but since moving from 2.2 to 4.0 and now to 4.1 I 've seen improvements in stability and I was quite happy with the stability of 2.2. .

Machine has been running for months on end. The only time its been off is when I took the pc with me traveling and reboots during windows updates. I used to have to restart sage every two weeks or so due to a memory leak but I haven't had to do that at all since 4.0 |

As long as I avoid the one or two things that I know Sage hates, i'm 100% stable both on server and client side.

Now that I have figured out that my Anti Virus was causing issues I am 100% satisfied with SageTV 4.1. It has always been very stable for me...for years now it seems, but now I no longer have stuttering in playback and recordings.
I am also very happy with my new Massive Storage Capacity Granted I will still whine and complain about features do not like, but hey what else do I have to do. John

Works PERFECTLY. 1 Sage server (Dell 4600), and two Sage client pcs (both Dells). Neilm's ATI remote wonder plugin, Neilm's web server for remote access, 4 tuners and about 8 hours per day of recordings.

I'm happy with 4.13.
The fading menu transitions scared my wife though! I like them.

Yes. I recently upgraded to Version 4.x because I recently ordered the Sage Extender. I think Version 4.x is fantastic.
I made a backup of my entire Sage folder prior to installing 4.x. I didn't bother uninstalling version 2.x. Everthing went smoothly. Not a hitch. My machine is less than 2 years old and I only use it for SageTV so it is a nice and clean install of Windows XP. (I use another machine for web browsing or other computing things.) I was using version 2.x and I've noticed that the interface is fancier and has a lot more options many of which I have not yet explored. I'm totally excited about the new extender for $99. I should be getting it soon... |

Love it -- it's working great
I upgraded from 2.2.8 to 4.1.3 this past weekend, and I am impressed. It seems to me that the video playback is better. I don't seem to get that problem after fast forwarding anymore. I also used to have problems with my remote losing it's connection/focus -- I would have to go get my mouse and use the menus that way and my remote would come back to life. This problem is fixed. I have two media mvps, and I love the extender support. Matt's client was awesome, but this really rocks! All in all, I am very impressed. I also like the UI changes, and the installation wizard is much improved.
I only have one really minor complaint -- I don't like that the mediaMVP does not turn off. I don't want it to draw power when I am not watching. I also have one in my bedroom, and the lights on the back of the unit create a glow behind my tv all night long. If it were just the LED on the front, I'm not sure I would care. Anyway, this is only slightly annoying, and I suppose I could always get out of bed and unplug the thing. I can't wait until next week. I have the whole week off, and it might to be time to play with studio. |

4.0 is *better* no question, but has nothing that I really needed, besides a few bugfixes. See my sig, if you interested in how I handle HD content. It's also noticably slower, I can clearly see that on my of my client boxes that has an old ATI Mobility chip in it, still works ok, though. 4.1.x seems to continue on that path. I haven't installed it yet, since the version number still seems a little low to me and a while ago I got rid of my MVP's and replaced them with PC's - which I kinda regret now. No question, you're in for a change. Last edited by flavius; 12-22-2005 at 09:54 PM. |
