with version 4.1.3.67 firewire rocks

I had to format/reinstall because of issues with my media center 2005.
I downloaded the trial today, and all the problems with the firewire freezes on channel change went away. my tuner will jump from channel to channel.
I was trying the trials of beyondtv and sagetv.
I didnt even bother installing beyondtv after seeing how well the firewire works!
Thanks for the excellent upgrade, and i will be registering my copy real soon.

So how'd you get it to work?... Does sage 4.1.x recognize the firewire connected to the stb as an available encoder? What kind of files does it create... mpg? or ???

I ask cause I don't feel like fiddling with Sgraph, etc. I just want sagetv to "see" the firewire plugged into the stb as an available encoder and be done. Too many other projects on my list to mess with a bunch of tweaking to get it to work.

I am upgrading my install tonight to the latest -- but I am sure it still requires SageGraphRecorder....

If you look at the firewire thread -- on the first post you will see a link to a note with more documentation -- I took some time a month or two ago to update an install guide. For new installs -- I would guess it would take less than thirty minutes to get firewire working now. It is NOT complicated any longer.... IMHO it is fairly straight forward. You should try it.

It took me all of 5 minutes to get the firewire recording to work the first time. And that was before the (MUCH IMPROVED) updated documentationh that summarizes it much better.

Especially since now you can just do the graph as tuner -> dump, and not mess with PS, et al.

I can confirm that 4.1.something beta does seem to help a lot with STB firewire recording. My channel changes now work *almost* consistently -- with an occasional problem rendering playback error... I have noticed a little more stuttering on playback on one system with the weakest video card -- only when the overlay is active. Quite happy with the latest beta... still get a few get file size messages while watching a live HD channel -- but they settle dwn and stop after a couple of seconds... I dont have an OTA card -- but I dont imagine that an OTA would provide any better capability now...

Just a couple of thoughts...

I can at least watch HD while I record now, but I'm still getting on average 40 of these per second:

GET_FILE_SIZE E:\SageTV.PVR\Glory-2661305-0.mpg 10:48:59 PM

ONLY when watching. I am not using service mode either (using regular sage, not service module).

Later I'll switch into service mode and see if that helps or hurts the get_file_size messages.
