HTPC for use with satellite HDTV

I'm looking to set up an HTPC to connect it to a satellite receiver that can receive HD signals, DishNetwork is the provider. I would like to be able to record HDTV channels. Can someone tell me what the best way to connect the HTPC would be to the rest of the equipment? Should I just split the signal at the receiver or put it somewhere else in the chain? I've read conflicting information saying if you live in the US you can't record from satellite TV. Can anyone clear this up for me and tell me what/if I can do anything to use SageTV?

Interesting name

The only way to get HD into a PC via DishNet or Directv is to have the receiver modified. There are 2 companies that can modify it to add USB or Firewire. 169Time.com and R5000-HD.com are the 2 places to look. I don't know anyone here that has tried to use the R5000 mod but at least one member here has said that the are successfully using the 169Time mod. BOTH ARE VERY EXPENSIVE.
