Are you putting SageTV to sleep when you aren't watching it?
It records TV to enable the time shifting capabilities. There have been some recent changes to how SageTV and Intelligent Recording work. You might want to try IR again. Once you train(marking "Like" and "Don't Like") it for a week or two it works very well. Also IR works much better once you get close to your hard drives usage limit. This ties in to your question about deletion... Yes. Sage will automatically delete the shows to make room. It deletes Time shifting shows first, then Favorites and lastly manual recordings.

Hope this helps some. Sorry I couldn't give more specific answers. It's been a while(3 monthes) since Sage was set up on my machine. So my Sage directory is almost always full. Because of this I'm not up on all the details of exactly how Sage decides the exact deletion order. As for hiding recording of shows for timeshifting, does anyone else know the current best setup?
