9800 Pro with DVI problem.
I have something weird going on with my video hardware in general.
It turns out that in windows or in sagetv my tv has these weird splurges of shadows. They eventually go away, but when I watch a dark movie (ie: SinCity) it kinda gets annoying. The best example I can give for the actions its doing is this. You know when you move a window around your desktop quickly and a part of the "window" gets stuck but then you just drag something over it and it fixes it... kinda like that but with shadows. Could it be heat related? because the 9800 gets rediculously hot... and always has... Here's my setup: ATI 9800 pro (driver version: 6.14.10.6542) Samsung 42" DLP Projection (Connected via DVI) Athlon XP 2100+ |

If your case is normal size (not Shuttle type), get an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer. It's what I have on my 9800 Pro. Runs very cool and very quiet.

I had similar (although not identical) problems with my 9800 pro a few months back. It always ran hot and it suddently started locking up or misrendering graphics in video playback or games. I ended up RMAing it back to ATI to resolve the problem. I recently rebuilt my system in one of the small shuttle cases and love it. I used a Vantec Iceberg 4 cooler and it fits in the case without modifcation, keeps the card cooler, and significantly cuts down on the noise.
You might try running a 3dmark loop and see if you can get the card to crash or display the problem on a regular monitor to see if the problem follows the card or the application/display. Last edited by enthilzha; 12-18-2005 at 09:20 PM. |
