Problem with SageTV's mpg files
Hi, I installed the demo (1.3.8, I believe) a couple of days ago, and I've managed to get Sage TV working normally with my setup, but I have a problem with the mpg files that SageTV generates.
The mpg files seem, in some way, to be "corrupt." When I try to watch them in WinDVD (4 or Platinum), or with PowerDVD (demo version), or even Windows Media player, they skip and stutter. I subsequently determined that simply clicking on one of the mpg files in Windows Explorer causes Explorer to use 99% of CPU, presumably trying to come up with the first frame so that it can preview it on the left side. Does SageTV somehow add some weird header information or something else that is confusing XP? (This problem happens on my laptop as well, so I don't believe it's a problem with my desktop configuration -- both are XP Pro). Also, I have no problem whatsoever with the files that are created by WinTV2000. (Also, I've fully virus-scanned everything). My setup: Athlon XP 1800, 512MB DDR; 120Gig 7200 UDMA-5 HDD, dedicated only to SageTV capturing, formatted in 64K chunks, NTFS; SageTV 1.3.8 PVR-250, with latest drivers from Haup. I like Sage's interface the best, but if I can't use the files on my other XP systems, then Sage won't really work for me. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks very much in advance. |

Thanks for your reply; I'll install the newest beta (1.4.9) and post my results.
Is there anything special needed in order to upgrade (i.e., should I uninstall the 1.3.8 first, etc.)? Thanks. |

No just run the setup for the beta. The installation program will take care of it.

Thanks for the responses; sounds pretty lame, I'm sure, but... it's fixed now, and without installing the Beta.
Prior to installing the beta, I installed the Hauppauge nanocosmos nanoPEG editor (which sucks, by the way), and then uninstalled it, and then installed the beta of the editor. Maybe that fixed it. Video codecs, as handled by the various applications, and Windows itself, are strangely akin to alchemy, or voodoo, I think. Before I finalize my HTPC, though, I'm going to do a completely fresh install of everything. Thanks again. |
