Added new hard drive and lost detailed info.

I added a 200gb hard drive and when I moved the video files that were stored in the TV library, most of them lost their detailed info. Out of thirty or so programs only 5 retained that information. When I look at the files using windows explorer, they all look the same with no difference between the ones that have the detailed info and the ones that do not. I noticed there is a database file called thumbs and I copied that to the new directory thinking it might contain the needed information. I tried all sorts of different methods and directories, but none work. I don't use the default directory within the sagetv program. I use a different partition. It has worked well until I moved the recorded shows.

The detailed info for the video files is stored in the Wiz.bin file. If those video files disappear, then their information will likely be cleaned up in database maintenance. Once that information is removed, then the Detailed Info for the file is gone.

Basically, Sage doesn't keep track of the Detailed Info if you move your files around.

Can a function be added that would support file maintenance of this type?

I would guess that if you gave the new drive the same drive letter as the old one and moved all the files to the same spot, then SageTV wouldn't know the difference and all the detailed info would be retained. This of course would have to be done before SageTV deleted the info out of database.

Man I wish that was in the manual. I have a lot of shows now Sagetv does not recognize. How can I play them using sagetv?

If I double click on the file in windows explorer, it opems with windows media player.

By the way, thanks for getting back to me even though it was bad news for me.

Maybe I'll try the open with command on the file open menu. With what you have said here, it probably won't work.

Am I reallly screwed on the these files? Is there no way to get SageTv to recognize them? I wanted to Archive some of them.

Thank you,

BLS

They are still perfectly playable in SageTV. You just simply will not get the show information for them anymore.

Shows that SageTV loses the 'info' on will appear in the LIBRARY (under Video).

If you look there you should find your files, assuming the files are in ether the SageTV or a configured import directory.

You can still put them in a directory and import them into the library and play them from the library.
