Network/Proxy settings

How about supporting a real client/server enviroment. Auto detect proxy settings. Use Explorer proxy settings. Etc. TV is becoming more useful in a business enviroment. I.E. stock quotes, news, etc.

Need proxy server support

Its a pain that I can't even get past the startup without getting the listing for the first time. I have a proxy so I can't use the software I already bought. Seems like proxy support is a pretty basic feature with Internet apps these days.

You're talking about guide data downloads, yes? If you have access to a machine on the internet (as opposed to behind the proxy) then you might be able to use DeleGate.

That said, it would be nice if the guide data could be published on port 80 via HTTP. Proxy support would be fairly straightforward if that were the case. As it stands, I believe it's on port 7760 and I'm not sure if it's HTTP.

Thanks for the tip salsbst, the DeleGate program looks intersting. I have looked at 3 PVR apps and none of them support proxy. Maybe this will help.

I've been rethinking....

I don't know if SageTV does a DNS lookup or not in order to get the address of the guide data host. If not, then you'd probably also need to give your assign the DeleGate machine on the client side an extra IP address which would be the guide data server.

Another interesting proxy server may be better suited is httptunnel:

One way or the other, this solution is not for the faint of heart nor those without some decent TCP/IP knowledge.
