Did V4 increased hardware requirements?

The setup in my Sig has been able to record two channels whle playing a recording since I first set it up.

With 2.28 playing an mpeg (in DVD extended play format) would take about 75% of the process and recording two channels would take about 10% each.

Since upgrading to v4 even recording one channel and playing one recording causes playback to stutter occaisionally. Playback seem to take 80-85% although recording is about the same.

Has anybody else noticed this and has anybody found a solution? (other than using a faster meachine)

It sounds like you are just referring to playback. Have you changed anything on your system along with the v4 upgrade? New video card drivers? Changed decoder settings? etc.

Yeah it's really just playback that's a problem.

Only a couple of changes...

The only hardware I've changed is I've gone from using a firewire connected maxtor one touch II, to using a dual firewire to IDE converter with two Western Digital 250Gb Raid Edition drives (Because the one touch died, it's obviously not rated for continuous use)

I've not installed or uninstalled any software other than installing Diskeeper. But this is set to defrag between 2am and 7am so it shouldnt be getting in the way.

If the change in firewire drive was having an effect id have expected recording to take significantly more resource as well.

Both firewire drives have 64k clusters.

A quick check of the actual utilisation using task manager, while just playing, shows it's varying regularly between about 75% and 90% every eight to ten seconds. It's also varying by the same amountduring single recordings, just at a lower lavel.

One of my Sage clients is a three year old laptop. With Sage 2.2.8 the Ui was as snappy as on any other box I own. Not anymore. That has changed with version 4. It's noticibly slower. It's still ok, though.

I have attributed that to the old Mobility M6 chip (ATI) which registers with 32 MB. I don't see the need to do anything about that box any time soon.
Could it be that the "fatter" UI has pushed your box over the edge?

I guess the minimum requirements have changed, but not much.

Hmm!

Input is

PVR250 Driver Version 1.18.21.22266

I've not updated this in ages as it appeared to be working ok.

Output is

"Intervideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge" and "Intervideo NonCSS Audio Decoder for Hauppauge". Video Render is 'Default', probably overlay as VMR9 gives jerky video.

Not sure what version, probably 22_22292 or something similar with a few more dots in.

They are the only ones that will let me play anything at all.

I tried the Nvidea decoder and Sage supplied decoder a while ago, but the processor isnt fast enough for those.

Should also add that everything is access via UNCs although I'm not using service mode.

Don't the EPIA mb come with a special version of PowerDVD that is suppose to take advantage of the hardware on the mb and accelerate the video decoding or some part of the video?

I've heard that there is some hardware decoding support but have never had a copy of powerDVd to try.
My Epia board came with a just driver CD.

FYI Just tried the trial of PowerDVD 6...

Bad Idea!

It seems to be entirely incompatible with my EPIA machine.
From the event log it looks like the driver, or something, got stuck in a loop.
It says "Display Driver has stopped responding", then sageTV stops updating the screen until I reboot.

SageTV has also deleted the show I chose to play. Fortunately I'd already watched it.
