Acoustical Management Anyone?
I just downloaded and ran the acoustical management software for my Hitachi drive last night, and recorded about 5 programs since then. Prior to changing the drive from fast to quiet I would have had five fragmented files, and some of those files would have had over 3,000 fragments. After doing so I only had three fragmented files, and the most fragmented file had 5 fragments.
Rather odd. Does having your drive set to operate faster result in it just dropping that data wherever the head happens to be at the time?
Also, not enough of a test yet, but I was able to watch an entire NFL game on a slightly delayed basis without any stuttering (before I would have gotten stuttering approximately 1.5 to 2 hours into the game). This makes me wonder if the acoustical settings affect the way the disc's cache works? It also could be a result of the lack of fragmentation in the file.
