HD recording output on SD TV on FX5200?
This past week I started using my HD Cable box via firewire to record shows in HD, and when watching them on my SD TV, I've noticed the video is jumpy. The PC's specs are as follows:
Celeron 2.6 (didn't realize it was a cele, will have to see about putting a real P4 in soon) 512mb RAM 40g 7200 rpm HD Nvidia FX5200 LP video card, passively cooled Nvidia Det Drivers (6693 I believe, going to bump this up to the 8195 version) Intervideo WinDVD latest decoders (can't get the version number at the moment) (Going to upgrade this to latest Purevideo tonight and see if that helps). Running SageClient 4.0, Using DX9, 3d & FSE, connected to a 32" SD TV via Svideo. When watching regular SD shows, this configuration works perfectly, no problems at all. When watching a HD show though, you get skips in the video every few seconds (kind of looks like one of the old 'flicker show' type movies from the early part of this century if you know what I mean). I'm going to try the changes I mentioned above, but I also wondered if anybody though going to a Nvidia 6200 AGP would help any? This machine will never be used on any other TV than what it's on now, so I don't need HD out, but the TV DOES have component inputs, which if my card supported I'd rather use instead of the Svideo output.

I can't help you, but I'd be interested to know whether you could get smooth playback if you used overlay.

I believe it was choppy on overlay with the drivers listed also, but I'll check it when I get home to be sure. Don't really know why I have a Celeron in that machine (board & proc came out of a Gateway system from work we upgraded, and the logos on all the machines ALL say P4, not celeron, wonder if we got screwed out of what we ordered?)
I'll let you know the results of my testing tonight. As a side note, playing the HD file from Media Player full-screen works perfectly, no stutter, and looks much better than playing it from within Sage...
