Is my SAGETV install hosed
Is my SAGETV install hosed or maybe something gone haywire with the setup or ini file? It began with a simple annoyance…every time I open the menu/recorded shows SAGETV would start recording whatever was on the cable and I would manually stop recording. Then this last week just before I left for four days, the recordings started pixilating, dropping out and generally not recording anything I could watch. I got back today and checked what had recorded while I was gone…all of November 22, 23rd and the first of the 24th are un-watchable. While the last of the 24th, 25th and today are appearing to be OK. I am totally blown away! I don’t know if it’s machine, setup cable company (which I suspect but can’t prove) or even where to begin tracing this down. I really don’t want to just arbitrarily reload SAGETV because the first series was long, frustrating and emotional. I don’t want to go there again. Any ideas on how to trace this down? While being there to watch recording would be nice I can’t guarantee very often.
Thanks for helping Raymond Ryel |

For recording every time you go to a menu, you should check your Video Options to see if it is set to Always. (Use the Options command from almost any menu to get to those options.)
For the recordings -- what do you mean by 'unwatchable'? Do you mean they are just a bad quality or do you mean they are junk? You could check your default recording rate (which can be set differently for each tuner), you could check your cable signal level (maybe it got too low for the tuner to get a good picture; if you've split the line several times, the signal could be dropping too low & you might need an amplifier), or you could check the tuner to make sure it works correctly with the software it came with (maybe the card is going bad or it is messing up when overheating), among other possibilities. - Andy

I mean that the picture tears into fragments and pixels then reforms and disintegrates again. Like a DVD that is not tracking correctly. Sometimes the sound is OK and sometimes it is lost also. This machine and SAGETV setting have been working fine since last February so I think it must be the cable company sending a bad signal for two days. It seems to be working fine now but I don't know why. |
