What is the best remote to use with SageTV4

I would like to find 1 remote that will utilize the controls in Sage 4 to its fullest and needs the least amount of configuration. Something that works with it right out of the box. Thanks

A general suggestion would be something with a good selection of buttons, and and a USB-UIRT. I think the 1-for-all remotes are popular.

I've tried 600 dollar remotes and I've tried 10 dollar remotes...

The best remote I've used thus far... My tivo series 2 remote.

I also use the new Hauppauge remote. I'm using the Radio button for DVD, the STOP button for Movie Searching, Pause button for OSD display INFO, Text button for Aspect Ratio FILL, Sub/CC for Aspect Radio Normal, and the red option button for delete.

The reason I chose this remote is because it works right out of the box with very little modification necessary.

I am looking for a remote with more buttons on it appropriate for SageTV.

I'm using an IR keyboard and a Sony Learning remote. Couldn't be happier. I can program the Sony remote to control all the typical AV gear and then learn the IR codes from the IR keyboard to control the PC. If I need to do more with the PC.... I can grab the IR keyboard.

To me, a perfect SageTV remote would be one with at least 45 buttons, nicely lay out. It should have the normal arrow buttons and select in the middle. And of course, it should have the power button, volume up/down,, channels up/down, numeric buttons, and the normal playback controls with two FF/RWs buttons. And the rest of the buttons are blank, meaning no labels. Instead, there should be a way for me to label them, either with some sort of stickers that goes underneath a clear surface or something similar. They can be colored and have different shapes like squares and circles. That way, I can assign whatever commands to whatever buttons I want and label them accordingly.

I installed a Streamzap IR receiver and use a Harmony 688 to emulate it. Talk about little to no setup required. I didn't do anything to the Sage box, it just worked with the Streamzap right away. Configuring the Harmony was pretty painless too.

But don't use a Harmony 688 - the buttons are too small, too close together, and a lot of them have very audible clicking noise whenever a button is pressed. I have my eyes on the Harman Kardon TC-30 remote which seems to have the best of all layouts and is based on the Harmony 880 and Harmony 520. Now if only they'd start shipping them... http://im2.onecall.com/Image_Products/harman%20kardon/tc30large.jpg

One of the better button remotes: MX-700

Or, if you don't mind touch screens, then the Philips Pronto line of remotes are great since you can design the exact layout that you want. Or if you already have a PPC, try NetRemote.

Good to see streamzap mentioned. I know it doesnt emulate others... but for just a sage installation -- it is a great comfortable remote. I have standardized on it for clents around the house.
