I think realistically a 9600 would seem to be the best idea.
maybe this?:

You can run VMR9 on a 9600 non-pro (if your CPU is fast enough... I'm ok w/a 2.4GHz P4). The non-pro will run cooler than the pro. There are very few pro's marketed without a fan.

I have just installed the fx5200.

Man alive it adds some heat to the case!! (CPU 53 - Motherboard 52)

I think that the main problem is that the video card is positioned on its side directly under the HDD. Heat being heat, it rises and makes the HDD almost too hot to touch with the case lid on.

I'm seriously need to get rid of some heat from this case. Increasing the fan speed is not an option as this will increase the noise.

I think that I'll have to get my Dremmel out and do some mods. I think that I'll start by removing the holed metal that blocks the fan intake. I read that this alone can make a massive difference.

I think realistically though, I have to look at getting an external ATX power supply and maybe even water cooling.

I second that. I use mine in VMR9 with no problems using the envidia codec.

I just bought a eVGA 6600 passive from pcalchemy: http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_inf...281490c62cee7d. Don't know much about it but the gigabyte won't fit in the case I got. The pcalchemy guys recommend it, some random message board reviews give it the thumbs up and its able to run console emulated games so I went for it. Will report back if I have any trouble but, unfortunately, probably not soon enough to help you make a decision.

I've been using one of these:

http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/...rationId=79772

It's a fanless 6200-based card. It's been pretty good and doesn't take up too much space as it's low profile, and allows more air movement. It's got a bit more oomph than the 5200 too (which is what it replaced).
