tvtv for SageTV 4 doesn't work ...

A warning to everyone thinking of using tvtv for EPG: it doesn't work.

It's possible that I'm missing something but from searching these forums I'm getting the same error as a bunch of other people i.e. tvtv error 12.
I couldn't find any posts giving a resolution and apparently the problem has been reported to Frey. I've fired off a support request to tvtv and will do so with Frey shortly.
Does anyone out there know of a solution? (tvtv error 12)

Ok, in retrospect I should have search these forums first and the tvtv problems would have been obvious.

And there is a big hint on the tvtv website.
When you go to sign up it asks you to select the device you will be using the EPG with.
Amongst others WinTV2000 and BeyondTV are listed but NOT SageTV.
I get the feeling (from some posts in these forums) that it was listed a while back but it definately isn't now.

Other than that SageTV 4 seems ok - I can't say I've noticed a big difference compared to the version I was running before (2?). But it seems stable so far.

Oh well, back to XMLTV I guess ...

If I wasn't so lazy I'd probably have another go at trying another product with integrated UK EPG.
Windows XP Media Edition maybe ... does anyone know if that has integrated UK EPG? And more importantly support USBUIRT?

BTW: if you are seeing a question asking what app you will be using the EPG with, then you are not at the correct screen for SageTV. That is for their web-based programming guide, not the one that is used with SageTV.

To sign up for the EPG service for SageTV, you would have to select the link from within SageTV -- that will take you to tvtv's page for SageTV.

Yes, I had read somewhere that when you select use tvtv in the SageTV setup it is supposed to launch IE (or whatever browser you use) and take you to the tvtv signup webpage. Although, I had assumed this was just to their normal sign up page.
But unfortunately, it didn't do anything for me - no IE browser window opened that I could see...
Also, I seem to remember other people saying the same in other threads.
Although they were saying that nothing happened, but they may not have ben expecting a browser window to open...

I don't suppose someone who is running v4 be kind enough to try selecting tvtv as the EPG source and see if it launches a browser?
If it does, what URL does it go to? Thanks ...

If this is the case then it might just be me being a simpleton.
Either way it might be an idea for Frey to clarify this. As I said, there seem to be others with the same problem and quite a few people have read my post asking if anyone is using tvtv in the uk and there have been no replies so far.

If a browser doesn't get launched in a new window & go to the tvtv sign-up page, then you should let SageTV know about that also... along with any other tvtv problems, so that all the kinks can get worked out.

Yeah .. I just double checked and it seems I was right.

In SageTv setup, firstly I selected "Use tvtv Services Guide Data with this Source"
Then I selected "Create a new tvtv Services account"
And nothing happens.

I've already logged the issue with both Frey and tvtv.
There are some people having the same problem over here:

At the moment I recommend that people stick with XMLTV until this is sorted out...

For anyone that's interested, I've had a reply from Frey:

If you are getting an error 12 then you need to send an email to tvtv and have them put the SageTV product code on your account. It's currently not showing up as a SageTV account.

But currently they are telling users that SageTV is not supported. We are looking into this issue here.

SageTV is currently tested with TVTV but is not officially supported yet therefor we can not provide any assistance I'm afraid.
