Sage 4 - Add HDTV A180 to Hauppauge Cards

Alright,

I'm ready to move to HDTV. I'm buying a Sony 34 Widescreen CRT HDTV and I would like to add a A180 Over The Air HDTV Card to my existing PVR-350/250 combo.

I will also put in a Gforce 6600 card so i can swtich from my PVR-350 output to component HDTV output through the 6600.

My question is: Can i tell what show should be recorded on what card? Because I would like all HDTV shows to be recorded on the A180 of course!

Also any other advice that could make this major transition easier for me (and probably a lot of others) would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Philipp

Philipp,

Yes you can. Basically when you setup your favourites (like season's passes in tivo terms) you can either leave it open in which case Sage will record it where it finds it. Or you can specify additional parameters like channel or times or things like number of episodes.

Hey,

yes, I have seen these options. However, I haven't seen an option of where i can specify that a specific show should be recored on a specific card. (Say I'd want "Lost" to be recorded on the A180 since it is HDTV)

You can't limit a Favorite to a certain tuner. You could disable the SD versions of the HD channels, so that only the ones on the HD channels get recorded, or you could limit a fav to a specific HD channel... but both of those limit your recording capabilities.

Some other people were using the encoder_merit property to give the HD tuners a higher priority -- while the higher merit-value tuner should get used first in most cases, there seem to be some situations where it isn't the case.

Thank you Opus!

So when I add my A180 i acutally will have two NBC's? The one I have right now and a HDTV version? How is this going to show up in the guide?

Man this HDTV business is still so confusing.

It will look something like some of these screen shots.

Essentially, they are simply additional channels in your guide, as if you had enabled some other channel, with DT added onto the end of them. WCBS might have a matching WCBSDT, for example, & both channels would be listed -- one for the SD tuner; one for the HD tuner.

Hehe easy enough! Thanks andy!

Does the STV that comes with Sage 4 support 16:9 btw? and what do i have to do to enable it?

Any other sugestions on what to watch out for on the transition from the Hauppauge PVR-350 output to Component output the the Geforce 6600?

There is no special settings/consideration for a 16:9 screen... SageTV will adjust its UI to fill the available display area. You would simply have a screen with its width stretched a bit -- again like those screen shots.

I'll leave the video card stuff to others. I still use my Xcard and 3 SD tuners.

The X-Card and hardware decode HD correct? Does that work with Sage and keep the UI on the X-Card? I like the idea of moving to HD...but I need a hardware decoder solution like the x-card. Thanks
