VBOX USB Capture Device
Hi,
I am looking to upgrade to HDTV and am shopping for a capture device. I have used three of my five pci slots and I have heard all sorts of ugly stories about what happens when you use more than three slots. With that in mind I was looking at the VBOX usb capture device. Is anyone out there using this piece successfully? If this piece is not recommended then which of the pci HD cards is proving to be the most reliable/easy to use? TIA Jesse |

I've been using a VBOX USB tuner to record HD since early Sage v3 betas. I don't have any complaints with the tuner or with Sage's use of it, although the setup hasn't always been rock-solid. In the same machine, I also have a Hauppague PVR250 PCI and a PVR250 USB. I've been able to record with all three tuners and watch recorded content at the same time, but not without occasional hangs or crashes. Stability seems equivalent when recording/watching HD or SD content though. The situation has improved with each beta. I haven't yet upgraded to v4.0.
In general, I'm thrilled to be able to record and watch HD content. Prices on the VBOX USB have fallen low enough that I'm considering adding another. Oh, be aware the VBOX tuner is bus-powered. I needed to buy a small powered external USB hub to get things up and running smoothly, but I also have a lot of other USB devices connected concurrently. -Steve |
