Using MIMO Wireless router for highest power?

Hello
Check out this link to see the device I am looking at http://www.netgear.com/products/details/WPN824.php

It seems like this might be a good option (although a lot more expensive than other Super G class wireless router technology) to get best signal strength throughout the house and outside the house.

I have been reading up on certain Dlink and Netgear Super G class routers, and now I found out about MIMO - (multiple input and multiple output) type of routers. Seems like they have 7 internal antenna's to help boost the ability to get a signal stronger and further away.

I want to stream my mpeg files as best/furtherest as possible, and it seems like this product is currently the most powerful/inexpensive consumer device.

I just wondered if anyone here has used this yet, in combination with SageTV network.

Thanks

I tend to stay away from Netgear routers simply because the firmware is so buggy. I have a Linksys MIMO wireless router behind a Cisco Pix 501 firewall which works for me.

I was using regular 54G for streaming to my client, and it worked fine. I mainly switched because there are three users of the wireless network, and at times there wasn't enough bandwidth for all 3 at the same time. It would make the Sage client stutter.

Then I switched over to Belkin MIMO pre-N. On my network there was a noticeable improvement in total bandwidth, and a huge improvement in signal strength at higher distances.

I can't say whether MIMO would fix/help for your application, but it did on mine.

Although I think the only brand I would buy is Linksys. Belkin never updates any of their drivers, Netgear has some issues from what I've read, and personally I'm not a fan of Dlink's network products (don't seem to support them very well).

Thanks for input. Sounds like it might be true that signal strength is better and longer reaching

I have only used Linksys products in recent past. But am willing to try other brands if someone has had good success with specific models.

Do know you what your actual mpeg throughput rates are? I know there is overhead involved, and if you using encryption that it will suck down even more of the 108Mbps bandwidth (as I understand it)

With WPA-AES encryption I get about 30 Mbps sustained. Not super good enough to have two wireless Sage clients going at the same time with no issues...

I meant to ask, can you tell me specific model numbers? I am making a list of both Super G equipment, and would like to consider MIMO type equipment too. As long as a few people out here have it (MIMO) up and running with SageTV. I can trust that it will work for me too. In my research so far, it seems MIMO can offer the most signal strength, and real good range.

Do you mind posting your exact model numbers? I would like to read up on it, and also see the cost. Before I make my choice for my Super G or MIMO wireless router (or access point)
