RC2 still has major trouble with HD
I had the last beta release ALMOST playing acceptable HD quality with the NVIDIA decoder. After install of RC2, MASSIVE stuttering is back when playing in Full Screen mode, VMR cpu up to 60%, overlay is a bit better but not much. Seems to play better in windowed mode....?
SD is ok. Switched to Sonic still have problem with selecting Source and getting correct aspect ratio derived. I would love to blame this on Sonic...but I dunno... I just think Sage is having some major problems with HD decoder implementation. I set up a girder toggle to let me manually select ratio and I have a very good HD picture with the Sonic in Overlay. VMR not so much....jerky but not nearly as much so as the Nvidia. A switch back to the Nvidia to check overlay mode, now provides a near perfect picture....but guess what ? no remote control through girder ..at all. clicking with mouse or keyboard provides macro effect as usuall - I entered a bug on this. before the problem was only limited to ff and rew as far as I could tell, and could be seen on ANY overlay rendering. Switched back to Sonic to verify that it was still working correctly. For now I am going to leave it on Sonic, as it provides at least a working HD picture...though with a manual workaround for the Aspect Ratio. mike/ P2.4GHZ, 6800GT OC, Girder, Sage Client |

I still have other issues such as audio not being played back from certian channels as well as the duration of some shows not being reported correctly such that skip forward does not work correctly.

They do seem to have issues with HD, but it's related to the audio codecs somehow too. A lot of combinations don't work well at all, and it's hard to find combinations that work well.
It's part of the reason that I wish the files would play with a MyHD card. I've actually grown to like the Sage interface better, but it is nice to have options when you have a problematic file. Last edited by Goodspike; 10-19-2005 at 11:04 PM. |

The frustrating thing is some of it appears to be random, once in a while, somehow, I get it working well, but then later after reboot, switch codec etc. it is not working again.
The 'Reload Media Player' button is also still not reliably showing up when changing renderers or codecs. mike/ |

Goodspike,
What combinations of audio codecs are you using? I remember you suggested replacing the AC3Filter that Sage uses with the earlier 0.7 version of AC3Filter (and I assume reregistering the filter). That did not seem to work for me. Maybe I did not follow you instructions exactly. Please repost in a step 1, 2, 3... format and I'll give it another try. |

The frustrating thing for me is that I can play the Sage recorded TS streams in every player I can find, except for Sage
Within Sage overlay works for mpg files but no TS files. Outside Sage overlay works regardless. |

Goodspike,
Sorry, it was someone else LovingHDTV, That is exactly my frustration. The audio probems I have are only within sage and no other media player. But it is even more frustrating in that I can use Zoomplayer to set up a custom graph that uses the Sage Splitter along with my prefered audio and video codec (AC3Filter, Nvidia) and it always works!!! This means that the filters I need to contruct a workable graph are already available to Sage. It just doesn't construct that same graph I guess. |

I wonder how much, if any, of these issues are related to the file format? Of the players I've tried, only PowerDVD seems to play back Sage files correctly. Even the MyHD card has way too much stuttering with them.
I don't understand any of the technical issues, but it seems like if you have a file that played back well using multiple methods, that it would also play back better using Sage, which allows multiple different components to be used as part of playback. |

Clearly sage is not just dumping bits to the hard drive. I just tried to split a file using HDTVtoMPEG2. Sage recorded files will not work. Recorded directly from the vendor software work fine

I have a similar problem. There's a chance this is related to my problem.
I can NOT play and .ts files created by SageTV in ANY media player outside of SageTV. Not even using graphedit. I have no problems playing .ts files created by other software/hardware (IE MyHD, HiPix, even the proprietary Fusion 5 app on the same PC). PLEASE make sure you submit a bug report and mention that it might be related to mkanet's issue which was submitted several months ago. I am still actively working with them to figure out the problem; so, any additional information we give them will help.

And yes, I do suspect all this is related. Any luck with dual Fusions yet? |

LOL....thats exactly what I mean, your issue is the exact opposite of mine. There is no common denominator. mike/ |
