Powering on Directv
Im currently using the 1.4.7 beta sagetv for the past 2 days and im starting to really like this software. Only have one concern now. I normally turn off my directtv unit when itss not in use and with tivo when i change channels or it goes to record a show it always sends a poweron command to the directtv unit. It seems that sagetv does not do this so I dont get anything video or audio. Is there a way to make sagetv send a poweron command whenever changing channels and when going to record a show?
Thanks much. |

Great question! There might be an additional problem, if SageTV could do it. When my DirecTV receiver starts up, it takes a few seconds or more to 'find the signal'. I don't know if you could immediately, after selecting the power on button, punch in the channels. Maybe there's someway to insert a 1, 5 , 10 second delay before hitting the channel numbers?
Are you using the IR cable to connect or a serial cable to the low speed connector? |

I current use a serial cable to control my rca unit.

I just built my PVR this weekend, I would like to know if turning the cable box on thur SageTv is possible. My roomate tends to turn it off and i hate comeing home and not having my show i was looking forward to watching not there.
![]() I would also need a delay for the signal to recive for the cable box. I am a totally newbie to this so if you could explain the steps i would appreciate all your help. P |

I second this. I find it very difficult to remember to leave the power on my satellite box. I just had a relapse today and missed some stuff because I turned it off. I will probably look into the EXETuner plugin and use it to call girder serial RCA plugin to send the signal to turn on the box and change the channel, but would be nice if it was built in. Also if there were a post recording command or hook for an exe so that we could also issue a power off after a recording finishes.
Another strong argument for this would be the case of a power outage. This would cause the box to go off. |

(about the power outage issue). I actually bought a small APC UPS to connect my PC and DirecTV unit to. If power goes out for less than 1/2 hour, I can still get my program. The APC came with software which can shut the PC down properly if power is still out for more than 25 minutes (for example).

Could Girder work?
I'd like to do this, too.
I downloaded Girder last night and have been working on programming it to work with SageTV and my ATI Remote Wonder. I'm wondering if the issue of turning on/off the Directv receiver could be handled through Girder. Here's how it seems it might work: Girder responds to events, so using a third-party app like dtvcon (www.pcmx.net/dtvcon), you could tell Girder to tell dtvcon to turn on/off the box. This leaves the question of the event. Is there any way to make Girder capture an event from SageTV? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm new to Girder and SageTV. For example, when SageTV starts or wakes up or starts a recording, does it send any kind of message that Girder could use as an event? |

I have a feeling that this wouldn't work for most people using an ir blaster. Most remotes send the same signal for power on and power off, so sagetv would have no way of sending a poweron signal - it would send a power signal which would turn the box on if it had been off, but if the box were already on, it would end up turning it off, ruining the recording.
I personally would leave the box on all the time, and get a ups like padre suggested. If you only watch tv through sagetv, you might want to move the cable/sat box out of site so that other people would be less likely to mess with it. |
