Feataure Requests

I am submitting two feature requests for SageTV. Hopefully, my requests aren't redundant.

VideoReDo Plug-In for SageTV
I don't know if the following request has been previously submitted, but I will submit in case it hasn't.

I use SageTV as a PVR software and think it is great. Recently, I discovered VideoReDo and think it is a must have if one wishes to edit out commercials from SageTV recordings. The great thing about this software is that it will edit MPEG2 files without re-encoding. When I edit out the commercials on a 1 hour 4.8Mbps 2.5GB Sage file, then it only takes this software 6-8 minutes to generate the new commercial-free MPEG2 file.

It is fast, direct, and gets the job done. Works better than the MPEG Editor that comes bundled with the Hauppauge PVR-250 card.

It would be great if there was a VideoReDo plug-in for SageTV. This would allow a person to stay within the SageTV UI and edit the commercials out and create a new video file all within the Sage UI.

I had posted this request in the VideoReDo Feature Request forum. The SiteAdmin DanR openly solicited the VideoReDo community to take on this challenge and also offered software tool and development support. See http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/viewtopic.php?t=1653

H.264 Transcoding within SageTV
Apple just announced their iPod Video that supports H.264, I see an opportunity for people to take their recorded SageTV shows and put them on their Video iPods to view at a convenient time. The Apple iPod/iTunes solution allows a person to add video files to their iPod Video, but the video is presumed to be purchased from the iTunes website.

If a SageTV user could perform the following within the SageTV UI, then it would be seamless and clean.

SageTV user picks a previously recorded TV show. There is a new option to export to portable video player. User picks this new function. The next screen displays a list of popular video players like Video iPod, Sony PSP, the new PocketDish AV700, and other popular portable video players. Each video player profile will contain the CODEC, resolution, and bitrate pre-defined. This way it will pass the Wife Acceptance Factor.

The exported file is saved in the c:\My Documents\My Video sub-directory so that it can be discovered by iTunes or other Media management software.
