Is a Geforce 6200 128MB AGP card fast enought for HDTV VMR?

I need to get a low profiel AGP4x/8x card for my client box. I need DVI and VGA outputs. I've been looking and it seems to be a hard find. I have found this card at newegg.

AOpen Aeolus 6200-DV128LP Geforce 6200 128MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Low Profile Video Card - Retail

Is this card big enough for HDTV VMR rendering? It does come with profile brackets for both the VGA and DVI ports.

thanks,

I have the Leadtek version of this same card and it works great for me on my HDTV via DVI, even in full screen exclusive mode with the Nvidia PureVideo decoders.

What's your processor speed? I'm using it with a 2.6Ghz Celeron in a client. So far the only thing that gives me trouble is a 1080i high bit rate HD-WMV file. It plays the video fine, but the audio stutters a bit. I've been blaming it on the celeron though and not the video card. 720p is flawless.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2800+ AMD so it appears to be in the same ballpark as your Cele.

Do you know what your cpu usage is like with that card at 1080i? I am trying to figure out if a sempron 2800+ w/ a 64bit geforce 6200 AGP will be powerful enough or if I need to use my geforce 6600 (I would love to keep the 6600 in my main rig and use a cheap 6200 in my hdtv box). Just curious.

Thanks!

I just ordered it. I'll try it out and report for anyone else interested.

I don't remember. I can try to check when I get home if my wife isn't watching something and report back. I'll do a HD-WMV and a 1080i MPG2 file, and report back.

I just got it from Newegg today.

Installed it and the latest NVIDIA drivers and tried several things in Sage.

1. Sage decoder, FSE - lots of micro-studders
2. Sage decoder, Overlay - less studders, but bigger
3. Elecard decoder, Overlay - works great!, stopped looking for now so that I can try a show tonight in HD.

I like this card because it is the first one I've found that has DVI and VGA in a lowprofile, with brackets (amazing how many low-profile cards out there don't have the brackets).

thanks,

The Sage decoders don't support DXVA so it's no surprise that there's studdering there. I really recommend using the latest nVidia decoders as it enables the "pure video" acceleration for MPG2 and WMV video up to 720P, and the VMR FSE is gorgeous without tearing. It's a very noticeable difference in image quality from Overlay IMHO.
