Nvidia PureVideo Question
I have a gainward FX5200 agp passively cooled card. I want to upgrade to the Gigabyte Nvidia 6600 (non gt) passively cooled card (agp).
From what I understand PureVideo doesn't clean up the picture in hardware with the FX5200. If I upgrade to a NV6600 will I be able to see the difference (at SD 720x480)? Has anyone upgraded to this card (or similiar) and seen any difference in picture quality? I'm currently using purevideo for comcast SD tv and dvd playback. P.S. Another question does the 6600 card with component output require the use of PowerStrip still? I have a Philips 52 inch Rear Projection TV. Thanks in advance guys!

Bump - anyone have experience with this? Does the Geforce 6 cards really make PureVideo/NVDVD look any better?

I belive the latest Beta drivers are supposed to enable ALL purevideo features with the 6600 and above cards, currently a 7X series is required for the advanced HD deinterlacing features
Honestly I have a 6800GT and I noticed a difference over my ATI 9800SE, especially with DVI (it actually worked right) but I dont know if there would be a diff with a better ATI card. From reading the spec sheet, I think that the full implementations of Purevideo only exist when using mediaplayer 10....I played around with that last night, playing various Sage recordings with Media player and they did look better to me, than straight through sage. I really wanted to see what a HD recording looked like but when I tried that in MP 10 I got no picture. mike/ |

I upgraded an FX5200 to a passively cooled 6200, and it made a noticeable difference. Especially with the new support for Full Screen Exclusive mode, and that card doesn't have all the features of a 6600. I think you'll be happy with the upgrade.
