Sun JAVA 1.5.0 vs. 1.4.2.09
I was experiencing crashes with the newest version of SUN Java 1.5.0 with SageTV 3.0.11. The problem seemed to always occur when I was "jumping around" a video using skip forward/backward.
I backleveled my Java VM to the previous version 1.4.2.09 (you have to go to the Sun.com website to get it. The java.com website doesn't provide previous versions.) My problems seem to have abated. Anyone else seeing problems with the Java 1.5.0 update? ------ Rob Alfieri HP Media Center m390n, P4 2.4GHz, NVidia GeForce 5600 FX, Hauppauge PVR-250 PCI II, Intervideo WinDVD 7 Decoders, Microsoft Windows Media Center PC 2005, 1GB RAM, (2) 250MB HD, Motorola DCT5000 STB, USB-UIRT, Time-Warner Digital Cable Last edited by RAlfieri; 10-12-2005 at 11:57 AM. funny you said that, because I was experiencing crashes that the windows debug said were caused by the Java software whenever i had my overlay mode set to DirectX, didnt have time to play with it so i just left it on overlay, but now i'm gonna try the older java version.
EDIT: I rolled back to 1.4.09 and the box hasnt crashed in days, whereas the most i'd get out of it with 1.5 was about 10 hours before it would crash. Last edited by berniec; 10-14-2005 at 05:04 PM. |

I've been using v1.5.0 without any problems, but I think many people have had trouble with it.

I've been using Java 1.5.0 (_02, _04 and now _05) for a couple of months on my server and 2 clients and I haven't had one problem with the Sage 3 betas.

I used to use 1.5 because it seemed to be slightly faster. but I had the occasional crash (may have been by other things however. I never really investigated it) but now I just use the one that included and tell it to ever prompt to upgrade. Now it can be up for weeks without issue. Only time I have to reboot is when my PVR-150 decides to not output sound anymore. Happens every other week or so.

I had issues with Java from their website. I'm currently using whatever comes with Sage.
