How to change channels with Hauppauge remote

This is a fantastic forum and I have made great strides in getting my PVR up and running by reading the informative posts on this board. However, I am stuck and I need some help. I have a Hauppauge 350 card with the new 45 button remote. I have downloaded and installed the new irremote.ini file and the remote can manipulate SageTV (2.2) just fine. The problem is that I can not change channels with the remote, I still need to use the STB remote. I have a motorola DT6200 connected to my 350 via the S-video cable. How can I use my remote to change the channels on this box? Do I need USBIRT? I know there are some posts on this topic but I can't seem to get my remote to change channels and I really could use some help. Thanks to all.

The Hauppauge remote isn't a learning remote, so you can't really get it to control other devices. But, even if you could, what you really want to happen is to have SageTV, not your hand-held remote, tell the STB to change the channel. i.e.: you use your remote to tell SageTV what channel to watch/record & then SageTV tells the STB to tune to that channel.

So, yes, you would probably want a USB-UIRT as long as the STB's remote is IR based, unless there is another way to control that STB, such as a serial cable. In don't know what other options there might be for that box, so I'll leave that for someone else to cover.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I want to do- control the channel changing through SageTV. The STB does not have a serial connector, but does have a USB and a FireWire port. Right now I can only change the channel using my STB remote (which is IR based). So, I guess its USBIRT or just use the STB remote. Thanks again.

you would not want to just use the STB remote because then if you ever scheduled recordings then the STB would not change unless you are there to manually change it

Thanks for the input. So, my only choice then is USBIRT? Nice springer spaniel.

or an Actysis IR200L. But the USBUIRT can control up to 3 STB's at a time and the IR200L can only control one.
I am controlling 4, 3 with UIRT and the 4th with the IR200L.

For an IR transmitter, the USB-UIRT is probably your most flexible choice.

BTW: The limit of 3 is for using its 3 zone capability when all devices use the same IR code. If you have more STBs & they can all be configured to use a different IR code set, you can control more than 3 STBs.

Turns out Actisys is right down the road from me- so I'll go pick up the IR200L and see if that will work to control my STB- thanks to all and I'll give an update soon.

Thanks, this is my parents springer Sam. I have a three year old springer--gus. Highly energetic but the absolute best companions in the world. Anyway, I went with the Actisys and they are really really easy to setup. But, if you ever want to add another tuner, you will need to either get another actisys or upgrade to a UIRT. I am in that predicamate now where I want to get another tuner but am also going to have to get the UIRT too.

JUC- I had a springer growing up and I loved that dog. Can't wait until I own a house so I can get one. One question, this is going to sound stupid, but when using the IR200 what remote controls SageTV/STB?
