Cable Ready..? 125 Channels
1. I think I saw that the Video Card (WinTV-PVR-350) will only allow 125 Channels. I am moving soon (Oct) and would like to consider using this product, but have Satellite TV system that has a ton of channels. Does this mean I can not record channels above channel 125..?
2. I have Dish network right now, and am considering buyin Direct TV Satellite and Tivo with it. If I only get Direct TV or Rent some more with Dish network, then I was wondering how feasible it is to use your Solution with my PC (or 2 PC's). 3. Which Card should I get. WinTV-PVR-350 or WinTV-PVR-250..? What is the Difference..? 4. So does my PC have to be right Next To my TV..? I assume the Video Cable that is supplied with card is only 6 feet long...? Right..? How do you get a longer cable or cables (sound, etc.)..? What other cables would be required to get longer in case I want my PC 30 feet away (another room).? 5. I have 5 or 6 shows on my Rented (DISH Network) PVR system (I want to get them to DVD) and assume I can use this Video Capture Card to plug into my TV and record back to my PC what the Current PVR system displays on my TV (I am thinking analog quality though...right..?). -Is this a special Setup (cable connections), or the Standard Setup that I would have to do anyway..? Please explain detail of what plugs into what..(Video Capture In From PVR or TV...etc.) I love PVR and Satellite TV Systems. So I hope these above questions are simple and resolved with No Issue. 1. 125 channels is what the internal tuner can handle, the turner isn't used when attached to a statellite box. So the channels aren't an issue.
2. Direct Tivo will cost more, but will automatically give you dual recording and eliminate the distance for the TV issue. Tivo has a more pollished system. Tivo burns through millions of dollars each month so if the company goes under you're left with nothing, unless some hacker gets it working and you know linux. PC offers easier upgrades and more recording options, and can archive shows on DVD or CD. 3. PVR-350 costs more but has FM-Radio and hardware mpeg decoder and S-video output. Word has it the the PVR-250 tends to have a new mpeg encoder which generates less heat. 4. Probably can be done, but might be expensive to get good quality cables of that length. I think there are some wireless options available. 5. You would hook your disk player to your tuner card the same way you hook it up to your TV (can use either coax cable or s-video). The you would use the software that comes with the pvr to do the recordings and not SageTV. Last edited by malore; 08-04-2003 at 03:45 PM. |

So for Question #2, If I continue to use my Satellite Service for getting my TV Programs, is it easy to use this Sage System as my PVR System..? Would I change Channels by using the IR Remote given with Sage (basically is my Tuner the PC running Sage or still is it the Satellite receiver). I am thinking Sage is my Tuner and the Satellite Receiver is a Dumb Tuner...? I am wondring overall feasibility of this and easy of use/install.
Thanks. Gbuc |

You'll need to get an IR tranmitter to control your satellite box feeding the signal into the PVR350/250 card (not through the tuner, but through the Composite/s-video input.) You can get the control/tranmitter here: http://www.freytechnologies.com/miva...Category_Code=
SageTV will then control your Satellite box and change the channels on the box using the IR transmitter.
