Tuning SageTV Native MPEG Decoder

I've had some crashes with Intervideo WinDVD7 decoder with SageTV. Microsoft Windows reports the problem is in the Java Virtual Machine.

I decided to try the SageTV native MPEG Decoder. I've noticed that the picture is jerky and not as smooth as the Intervideo decoder.

Any advice/guidance on tuning the SageTV decoder for better quality?

Thanks,
Rob

The SageTV decoder soesn't use hardware decoding at all, so it's all down to your CPU. How fast is your CPU? What else is it doing at the same time? Open up task manager and have a look at the CPU usage when playing back a video.

On my 1Ghz Athlon I can't really use the SageTV decoder; it's not too jerky, but nothing else (including Girder) gets any CPU priority, so the remote is totally unreactive.

Thanks for the insight. I appreciate it. If anyone is using WinDVD7, I would love to hear how you have SageTV setup to use its decoders.

I am also not clear on the difference between the standard Intervideo WinDVD decoders and the "Non-CSS" decoders that are provided by Hauppauge for compatibility with WinDVD.

Cheers,
Rob

The Non-CCS decoders are no good for your DVDs. It can't decrypt them.
