COOLERMASTER 620 HTPC CASE, Finally Cool and Quiet!
I have finally managed to walk the tightrope between cool and noisy and hot and quiet with this case. The stock 60mm case fan is loud but moves quite a bit of air. Replacing it with a quiet 60mm, reduced the air flow some and still was loud. I next installed a 60/80mm adapter and a quiet 80mm fan. This cut the noise way down as well as the air flow. Internal heat went way up. I next installed an Evercool EC8025M12C 80mm Case Fan (32 cfm). These are quite quiet but through the 60/80mm adapter the air speed is increased to the point you can hear the air rush out the back. I tried the standard 12V -7V trick but it brought the air flow down too much. So, finally I installed an Akasa 12V to 10V power cable. Now I had the balance I needed between heat and noise, with internal case temps running about 93-95F as measured with SpeedFan on my Asus board. Output must be +20CFM or there-abouts
The other noise producing components I got right the first time and are in my sig. I am just surprised that CoolerMaster would not have spend a little more time working out the cooling dynamics for this nice HTPC case.

I thought I would edit my post above to reflect the "new" changes to my Coolermaster 620 htpc case. I lost the 5V rail on my Zalman 300W power supply and I couldn't even get the MOBO to boot! Because of the good reviews of the Fortron Power Supplies, I purchased a 400W. Because of the extra-large 120mm fan on the PS, I dropped the 80mm exhaust fan back to 7V from 10V.
To reduce the temps in the corner of the case where the twin tuners are, I installed another 80mm fan with double stick tape below the left 5-1/4in. drive at the tailend of the slot. It JUST clears the outer case cover. Running at 5V it cools the occluded corner from the video card down the PCI slots to the left. 5V power and 7V power were obtained from the Zalman 12V & 5V power splitter included with their power supply. I just moved the black 12V leg to the back of the 5V connector's red wire producing 7V. This setup cooled the tuners better than expected and lowered the noise as expected but somehow raised the CPU temp by 10ºF, and surprisingly lowered the MOBO temps by 2ºF to 91ºF at the same ambient 70ºF. So next I raised the speed of the Zalman 92mm fan of the CNPS6000 CPU cooler just slightly and this resulted in the CPU temp dropping back from 130ºF to about 120-122ºF during playback, and 115-117ºF during recordings. 3-1/2 inch blow holes were installed above the tuners and the Zalman 6000 fan. Air flow is out for the tuners and in for the CPU. Later I installed twin Samsung Spinpoint P120 250GB hard drives, not only are they (MUCH) quieter than the WD's I previously used byt they run cooler too. See attached Images. While the Coolermaster 620 case is a pain to cool quietly, I am getting closer. Hope this helps other owners of the 620 or the CM Media 250 case with the same internal configuration.
